Ralaf hails from the northern coast of Denmark and was orphaned at the age of 4.
His father was a succesful and wealthy mercenary, his mother stayed at the farm. Ralaf had a much older sister named Astrid (who can sometimes be found wondering the festival grounds). After their parents death, Astrid stowed them both away on a trade ship and landed in the Vollan’s village. Astrid was eager to prove herself and make her fortune so she set off for the Middle East, leaving still 4 year old Ralaf in the foster care of Greta and Garrick.
Around the age of 6 Ralaf showed an interest ( Gunnar would say “annoying obsession”) with Gunnar’s armor smithing and since Gunnar could not get rid of the child, he took him on as an armorer’s apprentice.
As Ralaf grew older he learned from everyone he could. Archery and armoring from Gunnar, cooking and farming from auntie Signe, how to burp from Magda, and most importantly to him, the art of combat. Be it with axe, sword, shield, or spear, Ralaf is well versed in all, while not the best in the camp he is by no means the worst and is eager to learn all he can, even if it means getting his ass handed to him on occation. With the legacy of his father and the reputation of his sister, Ralaf wants nothing more than to prove his worth, win glory for himself, and make his name be remembered.
