Frode Tomtesen was raised with a silver spoon in his mouth. His father is a very successful and wealthy merchant, who brought Frode and his four older half-brothers on adventures to distant lands to trade. Frode's mother is originally from England, but married his father after they met at a market. Being half English, Frode is significantly shorter than most other men his age, which caused a lot of bullying in his childhood. His brothers are much older than him, so even they didn't really want much to do with what they considered to be the runt of the litter. He quickly gained the nickname "Tomtesen," which he has been unable to shake even into his adult years.
Frode grew very close to his mother, who taught him out to sew, weave, and manage money. It became quickly apparent that Frode was not a fighter, and instead preferred scholarly ventures. Being the fifth son, Frode realized that when his father died he would receive little to no inheritance. Not wanting to give up his glamorous lifestyle, Frode knew he needed to find a job that would pay him well, but also not require much work. And so he travelled to the famous encampment of Jarl Aesa and secured a position as the camp lawspeaker! Now he gets to rub elbows not only with the Jarl, but also other nobility they meet throughout their journeys. Maybe one day he'll manage to weasel his way into a better position of power. Until then, he is most often found in camp crafting, telling stories, or trying to instigate fights among the others so he has legal cases to preside over. |
